Description Patient Service Representative We are looking for an enthusiastic and organized Patient Service Representative to join our medical practice. Responsibilities include various activities related to patient intake, such as greeting patients or verifying information supplied by them. Successful candidates must have strong organizational skills along with the ability to think on their feet when faced with new situations that arise throughout each day within a professional medical environment. This role includes the opportunity to travel between location as needed, so flexibility with travel is something to be expected from time to time. Reports To: CSR Manager Status: Nonexempt, Regular, “At Will” Work Status, Full-Time POSITION SUMMARY Greets, schedules, and performs all processes associated with visits for the physicians. Serves as liaison between patient and medical support staff. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting of files or paper weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and multi-line telephone system. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. RESPONSIBILITIES Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, pleasant, and helpful manner Checks in patients, verifies and updates necessary demographic and insurance information Verifies and confirms patient information transmitted via patient portal Prepares next day patient charts, if applicable, ensuring all necessary forms and data is ready Processes referral forms, obtaining insurance authorizations where necessary Prints vision authorizations and interprets benefits to patients Requests self-pay payments at checkout for services rendered; monitors outstanding balances Posts payments into computer system, ensuring charges transferred correctly from EMR system Schedules appointments for physicians and special testing, ensuring recalls are entered Reconciles cash receipts and cash drawer against payment reports each day Continually checks incoming messages and faxes from all system responding within set limits Maintains work area, lobby, and reception area in neat and orderly manner Provides backup to central scheduling area (CSA) as necessary, routing incoming calls to appropriate departments/ persons; schedules appointments Requirements REQUIREMENTS Excellent verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance billing Ability to act independently and interact in a courteous and effective manner with physicians and patients Detail oriented with excellent problem-solving skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED Two years of customer service experience, preferably in a medical setting Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook
