MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) is required. Basic Life Support Instructor Training certification is required within 3 months and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 3 months. Grade 6 (Hourly)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Patient Simulator Specialist II coordinates and supervises educational activities at the University of Louisville School of Nursing Clinical Simulation Center. This position requires oversight of simulation operations, training of junior staff, and advanced collaboration with faculty to enhance clinical nursing education through sophisticated simulation techniques. The candidate should have current clinical experience or simulation experience to provide clinical simulation oversight, advanced technical expertise, and complex troubleshooting capabilities. The ideal candidate would possess a combination of clinical nursing knowledge, technical proficiency with simulation equipment, and leadership skills to mentor Level 1 simulation staff. The candidate should be comfortable leading training sessions for faculty and students, managing simulation schedules independently, and ensuring quality control of simulation activities. This position requires flexibility to accommodate varying class schedules and the ability to work independently while supporting the Director of Nursing Simulation in strategic planning and implementation of simulation programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee simulation operations by managing complex preparation of nursing simulation rooms for advanced scenarios and skills activities, including sophisticated moulage techniques, advanced equipment configuration, and comprehensive medication/supply preparation.
- Lead technical aspects of simulation scenario facilitation and provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex simulation equipment malfunctions. Collaborate with IT staff to maintain and update simulation technology systems.
- Train Level 1 simulation staff in equipment operation, safety protocols, and clinical accuracy standards. Provide ongoing mentorship and performance feedback to ensure consistent quality of simulation activities.
- Collaborate with Director of Nursing Simulation to develop and implement pharmacological protocols for simulated medication preparation and distribution. Ensure clinical accuracy and safety compliance across all simulation activities.
- Assist faculty development initiatives by supporting Director of Nursing Simulation in developing a comprehensive orientation and ongoing training to faculty regarding advanced simulation procedures, clinical environment replication, and sophisticated equipment operation across simulation labs and classrooms.
- Establish and enforce safety protocols and simulation lab procedures for faculty, students, and staff. Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Oversee facility management to maintain lab spaces that accurately replicate clinical nursing environments with appropriate cleanliness standards, fully stocked supplies, and clean linen inventory management systems.
- Direct inventory management systems for all lab supplies, equipment, furniture, teaching models, AV equipment, and laboratory manuals. Develop procurement strategies and manage vendor relationships for new supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate external relations by conducting comprehensive School of Nursing Clinical Simulation Lab tours for prospective students, faculty, and professional visitors.
- Manage technology integration by collaborating with the Director of Simulation and IT staff to oversee classroom streaming sessions, maintain video capture systems, and coordinate advanced maintenance schedules for simulator equipment.
- Serve as the primary resource for use of complex simulation technologies (ie. Anatomage) and train faculty on its use.
- Oversee student support services by managing nursing skills totes program, conducting regular reviews with course faculty to optimize supply bundling, and coordinating distribution systems for students.
- Administer scheduling and resource allocation by assisting the Director of Nursing Simulation in managing the comprehensive simulation calendar for all classes and activities, optimizing resource utilization, and coordinating with faculty and staff to maximize simulation center efficiency.
- Manage and conduct training sessions and oversee logistics for AHA courses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree in Medical Simulation with 5 year experience working in a medical simulation center. Knowledge of healthcare simulation software
