Removes items from patient room/surroundings that are potentially dangerous. Ensures implementation of patient safety protocols (elopement precautions, suicide precautions, aggressive behaviors). Assists in meal tray set-up if no restrictions. Answers patient phone. Notifies nursing staff to assist patient with activities outside of Sitter’s scope of practice. Consults with Lead RN or assigned RN, Security, other staff as needed. Reports oral intake to assigned RN. Ensures safety protocols are utilized according to policy. Documents implementation of appropriate protocols. Documents proof of observation on suicide precautions and other protocols on flow sheet. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not mandatory. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Communication Skills. Ability to respond appropriately to customer/co-worker. Interaction with a wide variety of people. Maintain confidential information. Ability to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal information. Responsibilities

This position involves directly observing identified patients at all times during the assigned shift to ensure their safety from self-harm and removing potentially dangerous items from the surroundings. Responsibilities also include ensuring the implementation of various patient safety protocols and assisting with meal tray setup when appropriate.
