Overtime opportunities paid at time and a half, after 80 in hours in a 14-day work period. County employees can also receive an annual allowance for health and wellness costs. End of Year bonus. Based on months of service within the year. Duty Firearm will be provided. All uniform, belts, holsters, and other equipment, including ballistic body armor and plates, with the exception of footwear, are provided. Ballistic armor is replaced every five years at no cost to the employee. Current P.O.S.T, applicable instructor skills certifications will be considered for incentive bonuses to salary. Benefits: Employee Benefits | Lake County, CO Position Summary The Patrol Deputy serves in a highly responsible and visible capacity in the protection of life and property, preserves the public peace, prevents crimes, arrests violators of the law, enforces all laws and ordinances and performs other related work as required or assigned. Deputies are expected to use the minimum force necessary to carry out their duties and are required to handle a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm, confident and effective manner. Essential Functions Perform daily duties, such as viewing reports, corresponding with the Lake County District Attorney’s Office, and ensuring paperwork is complete. Obtain search and arrest warrants. Ensure reports are complete, accurate, and prepared for distribution to the Court, Clerks, and District Attorney. Follow the Lake County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedure guidelines as well as the Lake County Employee Handbook. Able to respond to any situation and provide sound judgement. Assist in all situations and be able to take “Incident Command” on any and all situations that require a tactical response. Must be able to assess the situation and decide on a response or tactical plan. Able to assess crime scenes and take control of calls for service. Handle complaints from citizens. Perform a range of duties, ranging from sitting for long periods of time in a patrol vehicle to standing or walking for long periods of time. Able to work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, sleet, hail, and snow – and under extreme time constraints. Maintain strong time management skills in order to complete reports, community engagement opportunities, general patrol activities, meetings, and trainings. Able to work alone and with minimal guidance or supervision. Be self-motivated and display a good sense of self-initiative. Make field decisions in critical incidents. Supervisor Responsibilities Not Applicable Requirements Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification in good standing or out of state equivalent that can be transferred. High school diploma or GED. Associate or bachelor’s Degree in the field of Criminal Studies preferred. Possession and maintenance of a valid Colorado driver’s license, clean criminal record, and clean driver’s record. Ability to pass all required examinations within the testing process, including a physical ability exam, Psychological exam, Polygraph exam, background exam, written and oral exams, and final Sheriff’s interview. Ability to possess a firearm and pass the Colorado POST firearms qualification. Ability to pass arrest control & defense program. Ability to pass TASER qualification. Ability to see with or without corrective lenses (well enough to read letters and reports). Ability to hear with or without hearing aids and speak well enough to converse on phone or radio. Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, twist, reach, and lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to write, type, and perform other office duties. Read and write the English language with conciseness and understandable vocabulary. Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish.
