QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized company.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll; familiarity with OH, VA, CO, TX, and FL strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Paycor (or similar payroll software) required.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll tax laws and accounting fundamentals.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills.
  • Prior experience in the defense contracting industry is a plus.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a security clearance are required.

Responsibilities

MORE ABOUT YOUR ROLE:

We are a growing defense contracting company seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to manage and execute full-cycle payroll for our team of 100–150 employees. This role is responsible for processing monthly payroll for full-time staff and weekly payroll for part-time employees and contractors across multiple states, including Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, and Florida, as well as handling payroll for overseas employees. The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of experience in payroll, including hands-on processing, multi-state compliance, and tax reporting. Experience with Paycor is strongly preferred. While prior experience in defense contracting is a plus, candidates must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain a security clearance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run accurate and timely monthly and weekly payrolls, handling full-cycle processing for domestic and international employees and contractors.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state (OH, VA, CO, TX, FL), and international regulations.
  • Maintain, update, and optimize payroll data and workflows in Paycor.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll reports; support audits, month-end close, and general ledger tie-outs.
  • Manage payroll tax filings at the federal, state, and local levels; ensure timely deposits and filings.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure data accuracy regarding compensation, benefits, and new hires.
  • Serve as the point of contact for employee payroll questions, handling sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Stay informed of changes to payroll regulations, tax laws, and best practices.
