POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Payroll and Accounting Analyst is responsible for executing accurate and timely payroll processing and assisting in general accounting functions. This role ensures compliance with applicable contracts, laws and internal policies, supports financial reporting, and contributes to the efficient operation of payroll and accounting. This role requires strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations (CRA, Service Canada, WSIB, ESA) and accounting principles. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to handle sensitive financial and employee information with high degree of confidentiality.
*Please note that this is a contract position, with an expected term of 16 months.
Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration:

  • Accurately process the weekly payroll in Oracle for employees across the organization consistent with established deadlines.
  • Prepare and verify employee earnings in accordance with employment contracts, union contracts, approved company rules and directives, statutory withholdings and authorized voluntary deductions.
  • Compile required remittances for employee withholdings and benefits and ensure filings are completed by the respective due dates.
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and communicate results on a timely basis.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, audit requests, and reporting requirements.

Accounting and analysis:

  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules and analysis.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts related to payroll, benefits, and compensation.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyze information to support accounting requirements and management decision-making.
  • Assist the payroll and finance teams with completion of all other tasks, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • 2–4 years of experience in union and non-union payroll and accounting roles.
  • Certification with the National Payroll Institute (PCP or CPM) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario ESA, WSIB, CRA, and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Oracle or other ERP payroll solutions is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and time management skills.
