PAYROLL MANAGER

For over 50 years, our organization has grown into a major distributor of construction materials, serving clients through an extensive network of locations across North America. We are currently looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll functions across both Canadian and U.S. operations. This role involves managing a team responsible for timely and accurate payroll processing, while ensuring full compliance with local, provincial/state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will take the lead in enhancing payroll operations, driving system improvements, and collaborating across departments to support organizational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years of hands-on payroll experience
  • Experience with both Canadian and U.S. payroll practices
  • Experience managing payroll operations across multiple regions
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, HR, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Professional certification (PCP or PLP) from a recognized payroll institution preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, tax compliance, and regulatory standards in both countries
  • Familiarity with Dayforce or equivalent enterprise payroll platforms is highly desirable
  • Ability to manage system testing and benefit deduction updates during annual renewals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the payroll function across multiple jurisdictions in Canada and the United States.
  • Guide and develop a team of payroll specialists to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement and lead the implementation of more streamlined payroll processes.
  • Serve as the in-house expert for payroll systems, particularly Dayforce, managing system updates, integrations, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT teams to ensure accurate reporting, funding, and data flow across systems.
  • Support benefits administration by updating deduction configurations, validating payroll impact, and testing changes during enrollment periods.
  • Oversee payroll tax remittances and annual reporting requirements (T4, W-2, 1099, etc.).
  • Manage relationships with third-party payroll service providers, ensuring service quality and compliance.
  • Provide audit support for payroll, tax, and benefits-related reviews.
  • Maintain internal payroll procedures and documentation in alignment with current legislation and best practices.
