We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Analyst to join our team. This remote position is responsible for supporting payroll operations with a focus on tax compliance, audit readiness, and process integrity. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of multi-state payroll processing, federal and state tax regulations, and familiarity with payroll systems such as UKG. Union payroll experience is a plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • 4+ years of payroll experience with a focus on tax and compliance
  • Strong understanding of multi-state payroll processing and tax regulations
  • Experience using UKG (or similar enterprise payroll system) strongly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Union payroll experience is a plus
  • FPC or CPP certification preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process end-to-end payroll processing cycles for multi-state employee populations
  • Perform regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance (e.g., tax, wage, overtime)
  • Support internal, external, and regulatory audits with accurate documentation and reporting
  • Assist with managing the payroll inbox and resolving employee inquiries in a timely manner
  • Review and reconcile GL accounts related to payroll activity
  • Respond to and resolve complex payroll issues or discrepancies
  • Ensure accurate setup and maintenance of employee tax profiles (federal, state, and local)
  • Reconcile and validate payroll tax filings including 941s, 940s, W-2s, and state/local returns
  • Monitor tax notices and coordinate resolutions with third-party vendors and tax agencies
  • Register for new state/local tax jurisdictions as needed for expanding employee footprint
  • Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including FLSA
  • Manage and update SUI rates and tax jurisdiction changes as applicable
  • Utilize payroll systems (preferably UKG) to generate reports, analyze data, and support process improvements
  • Partner with HR and Finance to ensure alignment on payroll processes and data
  • Assist with special projects including process enhancements, system upgrades, and implementations
  • Develop and maintain documentation of payroll procedures and workflows
