PAYROLL ANALYST

Job Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Type: Contract, 6 months
About the role: Stelco is currently seeking a Payroll Analyst to join our team. This position will be based at our Hamilton, ON location and be offered on contract for a term of 6 months.
This position will report into the Manager, Payroll.

JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • College Diploma Accounting, or related field or 5-8 years of equivalent job experience.
  • Knowledge of government guidelines and restrictions is required.
  • Payroll administration or accounting and tax knowledge
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and PC skills are necessary qualifications. The ability to manage stressful situations to resolve employee concerns, utilizing the technical skills to communicate in a co-operative, tactful manner with employees and management to investigate and resolve any problems are essential qualities.
  • Experience with Workday would be an asset
Responsibilities
  • Input, analyze and verify transactions for the accurate compensation of Hourly employees. Ensure all legislative and contractual obligations are adhered to
  • Run various reports at the end of each pay period
  • Provide answers to inquiries regarding payroll policy. Investigate and resolve payroll problems for employees
  • Respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner while dealing with sensitive and personal information
  • Provide information to employees such as mortgage letters upon request
  • Ensure continuous knowledge of government and contractual policy and procedure. Maintain legislative compliance as well as effective employee relations.
  • Provide information to other departments such as Human Resources and Accounting upon request
