Description
Description This is a 6-month W-2 contract. As our Payroll and Benefits Consultant, you will own the full execution of payroll, benefits, and retirement operations across our firm and assigned client accounts. This is not an internal payroll role for a single company. You will manage simultaneous multi-client payroll environments, each with their own structures, schedules, and requirements, and you will be accountable for every one of them. Payroll Operations Manage end-to-end multi-state payroll processing for our firm and multiple client accounts on established schedules you own accuracy and timeliness across all of them. Validate, reconcile, and audit payroll reports, timesheets, leave, and earnings data; resolve discrepancies independently before final processing. Execute and validate all payroll-cycle changes, status updates, pay adjustments, bonuses, and benefit-related changes across all client environments prior to each payroll run. Resolve complex payroll and HR data issues using your own judgment; escalate only what genuinely requires it. Benefits & Retirement Administration Own monthly benefits and retirement carrier invoice reconciliation across all client accounts — auditing deductions and employer contributions against payroll systems and records. Manage retirement plan contribution calculations, file uploads, and data transmission to plan providers with full accountability for accuracy. Oversee benefits and retirement onboarding and offboarding for client employees, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks at transition points. Paylocity Implementation & System Ownership Lead payroll module configuration, setup, testing, and validation in Paylocity for our internal payroll and two active client implementations currently in progress. Serve as our in-house Paylocity payroll expert diagnosing and resolving system issues independently, and coordinating with Paylocity support on configuration or compliance concerns when needed. Maintain system hygiene across all Paylocity environments and continuously improve how we use the platform. Process & Compliance Maintain audit-ready payroll and benefits records, calendars, and documentation across all client accounts at all times. Build and own SOPs, checklists, and training materials that keep our payroll operations consistent and scalable as we grow. Serve as a resource and guide for HR staff and clients on payroll processes, system questions, and compliance requirements. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 6–8 years of multi-state payroll and benefits administration experience required. FPC or CPP certification is a plus. Core Competencies Paylocity Expertise: You know this platform deeply configuration, execution, troubleshooting, and administration. You have built payroll environments in Paylocity, not just run them. Multi-Client Payroll Mastery: You manage simultaneous multi-state, multi-client payroll environments with expert-level precision across preparation, reconciliations, and system execution — without losing accuracy or composure. Implementation Leadership: You can stand up a payroll system from scratch configuring, testing, validating, and owning it end to end. You do not need someone to hand you a finished environment. Benefits & Retirement Administration: You independently administer benefit deductions, reconciliations, and retirement uploads with full accountability across multiple client environments. Process Ownership & Improvement: You execute within established procedures and you proactively build, improve, and document SOPs and operational processes that make the whole team more effective. Operational Judgment & Problem-Solving: You resolve complex payroll and benefits issues independently using sound judgment. You know the difference between something you can handle yourself and something that genuinely needs to be escalated. Systems Fluency & Troubleshooting: You have advanced proficiency executing and troubleshooting across payroll, HRIS, benefits, and retirement platforms and you are comfortable learning new systems when the work requires it. Organization & Accountability: You maintain structured, auditable work across multiple clients and consistently meet recurring deadlines with minimal oversight. You do not drop balls. Professional Communication: You communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members, vendors, and clients at all levels and you are comfortable providing guidance and answering questions from others. Confidentiality & Discretion: You handle sensitive payroll, benefits, and employee data across multiple client organizations with complete professionalism and the highest level of responsibility.
