PAYROLL ASSISTANT

Location: Bristol (hybrid after initial period)
Salary: £25,000 – £27,500 (depending on experience)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
We’re looking for a confident and experienced Payroll Assistant to join our fast-paced, customer-focused team in Bristol.
This role is perfect for someone with at least two years’ payroll experience who’s comfortable speaking with agencies and workers over the phone. You’ll be helping ensure our umbrella employees are paid accurately and on time, while supporting our compliance with HMRC and UK employment law.
You’ll be based in the office for the first few months, with the option to move to a hybrid working model once you’re fully up to speed.

Responsibilities
  • Processing multiple weekly payrolls for umbrella employees, including PAYE calculations
  • Handling inbound and outbound calls to agencies and contractors, resolving queries and building relationships
  • Generating payslips, remittance advice, and submitting RTI to HMRC
  • Maintaining employee records including starters, leavers, contracts, and statutory documentation
  • Supporting with holiday pay, SSP, SMP, and pension auto-enrolment
  • Answering payroll queries in a clear, professional and timely manner
  • Assisting with P60s, P45s, and end-of-year payroll tasks
  • Collaborating with customer service and finance teams to ensure smooth operations
