About the Role:
The Payroll Assistant’s primary responsibility is to accurately compute and record earnings owed to designated employees and perform relevant data entry.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience with payroll operations within a construction environment is required
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards payroll module
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work with internet based programs
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal capabilities
  • Effective, tactful communication skills with the ability to help employees at all levels concerning their pay and deductions
  • Self-starter with a good attitude

Responsibilities
  • Review and enter weekly timecards
  • Process unemployment claims
  • Process payroll for BC, AB, SK, NT
  • Prepare interim checks
  • Calculate, edit, and print payroll checks or facilitate electronic fund transfer
  • Prepare union reports and certified payrolls
  • Union monthly remittance
  • Record and administer bonus payments
  • Review reports and correct errors in a timely manner while communicating with employees and management
  • Calculate deductions such as income tax withholding, Social Security payments, insurance, and union dues
  • Immediately record changes to relevant payroll records, including withholdings
  • Complete year-end reconciliation and preparations of T4’s
  • Prepare accurate summary reports per pay period, as well as on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards
