Job Purpose & Responsibilities
This is a permanent, full-time position with the Corporate Services Department.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this position is responsible for:

  • Providing confidential payroll and benefit services and assistance to the organization and employees while adhering to legislation
  • Processing biweekly and monthly payroll remittances
  • Maintain changes, additions, and deletions for payroll system earnings, deductions, and payroll codes
  • Reconciling payroll subledger to General Ledger
  • Providing timely reports to managers, including information on overtime, vacation, and other accruals
  • Maintaining all additions, changes, and terminations for the City employee pension and benefit plans
  • Assisting with disability claims management, payments, and return to work planning
  • Balancing and submitting payments for pension, benefits, source deductions, union dues, and all other remittances
  • Issuing and filing Records of Employment, necessary tax documents, including T4s
  • Completing year end processing
  • Responding to all inquiries regarding benefits, payroll, pension, disability, vacation, and other employee relations issues
  • Supporting other functions of the department as needed

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Post secondary Diploma in Accounting, Business, Human resources, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in payroll and benefits administration, preferably in a Municipality or Government
  • Certified Payroll Administrator (CPA)
  • Knowledge of Alberta Labour standards and payroll legislation
  • Strong computer and organizational skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, and payroll software
  • Experience with Avanti Payroll is considered an asset
  • Strong confidentiality and customer service skills
  • Proven problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate across the organization including regulator bodies
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Hours of work are 35 hours per week Monday to Friday.
