JOB SCOPE SUMMARY –

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for supporting and owning payroll processing and reporting responsibilities, in collaboration with the Payroll Manager. This role serves as the main point of contact for all payroll operations, as an entry level role and beginning step in growing towards a Payroll Manager position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE -

Minimum of 5 years payroll experience, including multi-state processing.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, or Human Resources or a related field preferred.

Job-Specific Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms (Paylocity, preferred).
  • Strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Functions, Macros).
  • Familiarity with timekeeping systems and payroll integrations.
  • Experience with acquisitions and system transitions.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • On a monthly basis, process two regular, bi-weekly payrolls (hourly and salary), one commission payroll, and off-cycle payrolls as needed.
  • Review and audit timesheets as part of the payroll preparation process.
  • Manage garnishments
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries.
  • Prepare payroll reports and perform reconciliations.
  • Generating compliance reports related to ACA, 401(k), Workers’ Compensation.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and support audits.
  • Maintain strong checks and balances.
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA, payroll tax laws, and multi-state regulations.
  • Stay current on payroll legislation.
  • Assist in SOP creation and implementation.
  • Participate in acquisition-related transitions.
  • Complete timecard audits such as meal compliance, Part-time tracking and variance.
  • Provide support to Payroll Manager, as needed.
