We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Payroll Compliance Specialist to join our People Operations team in our Melbourne office on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will play a key role in providing independent oversight and assurance that payroll outcomes meet all legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements. This role sits at the centre of payroll governance, leading compliance monitoring, risk management, audit support and remediation activities to ensure accurate, controlled and sustainable payroll outcomes. Working closely with Payroll, People, Finance and audit stakeholders, you will strengthen compliance frameworks, uplift capability and drive a disciplined, risk-aware approach to payroll across the organisation. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and governance of payroll compliance frameworks, establishing clear standards, monitoring rhythms and controls to ensure high-quality, risk-managed payroll outcomes. Own the end-to-end payroll compliance operating model, including assurance activities, risk controls, monitoring programs and escalation pathways. Oversee compliance reviews, investigations and case management, ensuring accurate interpretation of awards and enterprise agreements, strong documentation and timely escalation of complex matters. Provide governance over awards, enterprise agreements and regulatory obligations, coordinating system changes and validating readiness for compliant execution. Ensure ongoing compliance with employment legislation and regulatory requirements, maintaining audit-ready controls, compliance registers and risk management practices. Drive continuous improvement of payroll controls, processes and reporting, supporting remediation initiatives and strengthening long-term compliance capability. Your Background Strong experience in payroll compliance, governance, audit or risk, ideally within a complex or regulated environment. Deep understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including awards, enterprise agreements, PAYG, superannuation and payroll tax. Experience leading or supporting payroll audits, compliance reviews and remediation programs. Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex industrial instruments and identify compliance risks. Experience working with payroll systems and HRIS, with an understanding of system controls, data integrity and configuration governance. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to partner across Payroll, People, Finance and audit functions. Responsibilities
The Payroll Compliance Specialist will lead the development and governance of payroll compliance frameworks to ensure outcomes meet all legislative and regulatory requirements.
