QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

• Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred
• Minimum 2-3 years payroll processing experience, preferably in public sector or education; proficiency with school payroll software systems desired
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g. FLSA, ACA, COBRA, ERISA)

REQUIREMENTS

• Background check, including fingerprinting
• Maine Department of Education CHRC Approval

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accurately process bi-weekly payroll and pay for stipend positions.
• Calculate and process salary adjustments, overtime, stipends, and supplemental pay.
• Verify and pay all state and federal taxes; Prepare and file quarterly state and federal tax reports.
• Maintain accurate employee records including salary schedules, deductions, and benefit information.
• Process employee deductions.
• Respond to employee benefits concerns including: Insurance, retirement plans and contributions, time off.
• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and district policies
• Maintain work calendars in time tracking and payroll systems.
• Coordinate with Human Resources to process FMLA leaves
• Assist with year-end reporting including W-2 preparation and distribution
• Support budget preparation by providing payroll projections and analysis
