The Town of Falmouth seeks an experienced professional to be our next full-time Payroll Coordinator. The successful candidate is a highly motivated team player who also works well independently and has strong problem-solving, mathematical, and analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail. This is a full-time, benefited position that works on-site at the Town Hall 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Payroll Coordinator’s primary function is to process the payroll for approximately 820 Town employees and 1,200 School employees, including sending payroll and accounts payable account transfers and reports and making timely payments to federal and state agencies and payroll vendors, including withheld wage taxes and garnishments. This position reconciles all payroll transactions to ensure accuracy, balances all bank accounts monthly, and resolves any discrepancies. The Payroll Coordinator also prepares and submits the Town’s quarterly reports and the annual Form W-2s, 1099-MISC Forms, and Form 945 and maintains and resolves uncashed checks.
The Payroll Coordinator also performs a variety of Treasurer/Collector’s Office functions, including but not limited to: processing tax title payments, redemptions, and backup withholding “B” notices; maintaining files for performance bonds, recording payments, and processing refunds; processing Retirement receipts, bank deposits, reconciliations, and reports, including historic earnings files; filing tax payments for meals sales tax for the School Department; reporting expenditures and requests for reimbursement for School building projects to the State Treasurer’s Office; and processing scholarship awards, ambulance payments, cash receipts, and cashbook entries.
The Payroll Coordinator reports to the Treasurer/Collector and often works independently; however, the position also works with other Treasurer/Collector’s Office staff, the Accounting Office, other members of the Finance Department, and the Human Resources Department.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in a responsible position involving payroll processing and accounting duties; or any equivalent combination of education or experience.; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
Municipal experience and Tyler Technologies/MUNIS experience preferred.
Expected Starting Wage Range: Step 1 ($30.40/hour) - Step 4 ($34.20/hour), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to annually advance along the 7-step salary table.
