This is a rare chance to join a well-established Canberra organisation where payroll is recognised as a critical business function and where your expertise will directly contribute to employee experience, compliance and operational excellence.

You will lead a small payroll team and oversee the delivery of accurate, compliant and timely payroll services across a diverse workforce. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of Payroll Officers.
  • Overseeing payroll processing and payroll-related reconciliations.
  • Managing payroll tax, superannuation and statutory obligations.
  • Interpreting employment agreements and relevant industrial instruments.
  • Resolving complex payroll enquiries and escalations.
  • Managing payroll compliance and governance requirements.
  • Developing strong relationships across finance, people and culture, and operational teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll processes and employee experience.

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll leadership position.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing payroll teams within a complex organisation.
  • A sound understanding of awards, employment conditions and payroll governance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical capability and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively in a changing and evolving environment.
  • A proactive approach to process improvement and team leadership.
