The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely execution of all payroll functions within GT Independence. This includes managing a team of payroll administration staff, ensuring adherence to internal schedules, maintaining compliance standards, and serving as a key leader in operational efficiency. The Payroll Manager partners closely with program managers and market-level leadership to coordinate payroll-related processes and initiatives, while providing strategic leadership and direction to the payroll team.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field preferred)

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in payroll operations, banking, or financial services; leadership experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and Great Plains (or similar accounting/payroll systems)
  • Demonstrated excellence in attention to detail and process accuracy
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong planning, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to integrate technology into payroll operations for increased efficiency
  • Capacity to work collaboratively across departments and functions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance management for the Payroll Administrator and Assistant Payroll Administrator to promote a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement, which includes the following:

  • Serve as a payroll subject matter expert and leader across departments by supporting strategic payroll initiatives and company-wide process improvements.
  • Accurately and efficiently perform all steps of the payroll administrative process.
  • Produce and distribute all payroll reminders and updates to ensure transparency and timeliness.
  • Oversee all payroll admin functions, including deposits, voids, and check reissues, to ensure they are completed accurately and on time
  • Monitor and optimize workflows, resolves discrepancies, streamline processes and implement process improvements
  • Compile, measure, and report all payroll metrics; report key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership.
  • Evaluate payroll processes and systems regularly to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements aligned with organizational goals.
  • Approve and audit all payroll deposits for all Markets
  • Create, manage, and update both external and internal payroll schedules to ensure compliance and coordination across departments.
  • Support market-level leadership, including program managers, and coordinating compliance with internal payroll schedules.
  • Act as final approver for high-value payments, safeguarding financial accuracy and integrity to mitigate errors and ensure accuracy
  • Collaborate with operations leadership and training to ensure adequate training needs for staff engaged with operations (payroll and customer service)
  • Monitor requests for manual checks, requests for payments (off-cycle), and void/re-issues to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of payroll guidelines, policies, and standard operating procedures in partnership with operations leadership and training teams.
  • Demonstrate proactive leadership by communicating risks, timeline challenges, and proposed solutions to upper management.
  • Use appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding timeline or schedule concerns
  • Represent GT Independence values and mission by promoting ethical and inclusive leadership practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations Administration, Chief of Operations, and Chief Financial Officer.
