The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the Payroll Department. Reports to the Chief Financial Officer. Responsibilities of the position include: Manages payroll of all employees, develops and controls all tasks necessary to accomplish the payroll process. Handles any system related problems and keeps the payroll system up to date and operating efficiently. Manages the electronic timekeeping system. Responds to numerous questions from employees regarding pay-related matters and policies. Helps with the process of monthly insurance reconciliations. Process wage garnishments and child support orders in payroll system. Maintains good relationships with school personnel while working to enforce payroll policies and practices. Prepares monthly general journal entries and reconcile payroll ledger accounts. Validates the accuracy of 401k hours and earnings reports for mid-year and year-end testing. Conducts annual workers’ compensation and 401K audits. Completes IPED reports for all campuses. Provides numerous reports, including monthly overtime and employee count to corporate Vice Presidents. Prepare Quarterly wage surveys required by the state. Maintains the accuracy of fiscal year local tax, vacation accruals and payroll accruals. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. Advanced degree preferred. Five years payroll experience, with three years management experience. Accounting knowledge required. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Experience to include all payroll programs and electronic timekeeping system. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure with deadlines. Knowledge working with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Explorer. Knowledge of employee benefits, Section 125 plans, 401-k plans and state and Federal labor laws as well as knowledgeable of human resource laws. Ability to be proactive and problem solve is essential. Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone.
