his role plays an important part in delivering accurate, timely and reliable payroll services to a large and diverse workforce. Working within the Business Services Centre (BSC), the Payroll Officer supports payroll processing across multiple enterprise agreements, systems and business units. The position focuses on high-quality payroll delivery, strong customer service, and effective issue resolution within agreed service levels. It suits someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, values collaboration, and takes pride in getting the detail right. Key Responsibilities Deliver payroll processing for wages and salaried employees along with leave management, overpayments, reconciliations and reporting Ensure payroll outcomes are accurate, compliant with relevant legislation, and delivered within agreed timeframes and service level agreements Complete first-round reconciliations for main and off-cycle payrolls, including superannuation, taxation, payroll tax and general ledger costing Process payroll transactions using enterprise HR and payroll systems in line with agreed deadlines Respond promptly to payroll enquiries raised through the customer support system, phone or email, applying strong problem-solving and customer service principles Work collaboratively with team members, HR and business stakeholders to resolve payroll issues and improve service outcomes Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, payroll system enhancements and project activities as required Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll information at all times Follow all relevant policies, procedures, safety standards and quality frameworks What You Will Bring A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a payroll processing role within a high-volume environment Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality customer service in a complex or service-driven setting Exposure to multiple enterprise agreements and payrolls of 1,000+ employees (desirable) Experience using payroll systems such as SAP, Oracle (V12 or Express HR), Pay Global, Attaché or Meridian (system exposure dependent on role requirements) Sound knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements and best practice Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees, team members and stakeholders Good planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines A proactive, detail-focused approach with the confidence to investigate and resolve payroll issues Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment while maintaining accuracy and service quality Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word Benefits Of Working with Downer Work with an ASX listed company, working with market leaders.
