Job Description We’re looking for a proactive and detail-driven Payroll Officer to join our Finance team and own the end-to-end payroll process. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Payroll and Accounts Payable, you’ll make sure our people are paid accurately and on time - while helping shape how we do payroll in a fast-growing, tech-forward business. This is a hands-on role that blends day-to-day payroll operations with opportunities to improve processes, drive automation, and contribute to our evolution into an AI-native finance function. What you'll do: Run payroll end-to-end: fortnightly and out-of-cycle payments, terminations, and one-off adjustments. Process commissions and ensure all calculations are accurate and timely. Support the employee lifecycle by checking onboarding, changes, and offboarding data for accuracy. Maintain compliance with payroll legislation, taxation, and superannuation across all states. Reconcile and report PAYG, superannuation, child support, and other deductions. Prepare payroll journals and reports to support month-end and year-end processes. Respond to payroll queries with accuracy, empathy, and clear communication. Champion continuous improvement and look for ways to streamline processes, automate tasks, and leverage AI-driven tools. Support ad hoc finance tasks, including maintaining expense systems and audit prep. Qualifications What you’ll bring 2+ years’ experience in payroll, ideally in a small to medium-sized organisation. Solid knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, and termination pay. Experience with Employment Hero (HRIS) or KeyPay, and Excel is a plus, but not a must. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar (desirable). Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills. A proactive, service-oriented mindset - you take pride in getting things right. Great communication skills - written, verbal, and interpersonal. Confidence working autonomously and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
