Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Location: Jacksonville, FL 32202
Job Type: Contract
Hours: 8am to 5pm, 2-3 days on-site each week (may increase to 5 days on-site per week)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience processing payroll in a corporate environment
  • Preferred: Payroll Professional certification
  • Knowledge of:
  • Office methods and procedures
  • Bookkeeping and payroll principles, practices, and procedures
  • Collective bargaining agreements and guidelines
  • Federal tax laws related to payroll processing
  • Skill in:
  • Using electronic payroll systems (e.g., Oracle)
  • Performing mathematical calculations and computations
  • Operating standard office equipment
  • Using Microsoft Office Suite (Intermediate Excel skills required)
  • Critical thinking for problem analysis and resolution
  • Maintaining accounting records and posting figures accurately
  • Ability to:
  • Create and upload B-Batches, validate imports
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate clearly in English
  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders
  • Identify and suggest solutions to recurring issues

Responsibilities
  • Perform full range of record keeping and payroll processing activities
  • Administer time and attendance functions
  • Compute wages and overtime, calculate and record deductions
  • Process direct deposits, savings bonds, and deduction requests
  • Maintain and audit time and attendance records
  • Verify earnings per collective bargaining agreements
  • Resolve out-of-balance payroll issues and assist employees with payroll inquiries
  • Update payroll information such as payments, tax status, and W-4 data
  • Generate and distribute payroll reports to departments
  • Process bi-weekly payroll checks
  • Interface with internal and external customers for payroll purposes
  • Conduct research and provide historical payroll data
  • Submit payroll payment and contribution files
  • Collaborate with Payroll Analyst to keep procedures current
  • Train peers in basic payroll tasks
  • Perform quality control and validation of payroll processes
  • Manage involuntary deductions (e.g., levies, garnishments)
  • Reconcile payroll system outputs and special pay requests
  • Operate standard office equipment and use necessary software.
