SUMMARY: Assist the Chief Financial and Operations Officer in a variety of financial tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Department of Business Operations and related District services. Primarily responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll and also support accounts payable and other financial/accounting functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Superior work habits and ethics.
  • Accuracy and extreme attention to detail are of primary importance.
  • Self-motivated with ability to initiate and complete tasks without direct supervision.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and two years payroll experience; Associates Degree in Accounting, Business, or HR preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Ability to perform duties as outlined with strict confidentiality of all records and conversations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the district.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to calculate garnishments and annual maximum salary increases.

OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES

Ability to operate a Personal Computer with spreadsheet experience. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities
  • Processes classified employee payroll, payroll procedures, and related reports.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate, up-to-date files of classified payroll information.
  • Coordinates with Principal Secretaries for payroll/attendance information.
  • Monitors and verifies classified staff attendance and hours worked in the automated time system.
  • Prepares, verifies, and distributes payroll checks.
  • Balances payroll and withholding accounts.
  • Verifies salary rates according to labor contracts.
  • Understands payroll operation in a labor contact environment.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations.
  • Works with representatives of government, employee unions, and retirement agencies to provide information.
  • Works with staff to update and maintain database records assigned to the Business Office Department.
  • Establishes and maintains all active and inactive employee payroll files.
  • Problem solves and assumes responsibility for efficient department operations.
  • Presents a positive image to the district community (employees and public)
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Administrator
