POSITION SUMMARY

King University is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage payroll operations and assist with employee benefits administration. This position plays a vital role in ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with applicable laws, and providing excellent service to employees regarding pay and benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of payroll experience in an organization with 150+ employees, including benefits administration.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, reporting requirements, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll software (Dynamics experience a plus).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to the Christian mission of King University and the ability to articulate a personal faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & SCHEDULE

  • Light work as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Some nights and weekends may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process biweekly, monthly, and special payrolls for staff, faculty, and student employees.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update salary/pay rates as needed.
  • Verify and document vacation and sick leave monthly.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Conduct new hire onboarding, including benefits explanation and enrollment.
  • Process departing employee paperwork, benefits changes, and final pay.
  • Prepare required payroll reports, including W-2s, Tennessee Employment Reports, and OSHA reports.
  • Serve as liaison for Workers’ Compensation, filing claims and maintaining records.
  • Administer medical insurance, flexible spending plans, and retirement plan records.
  • Support annual audits related to payroll, benefits, and retirement plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee records.
