Location: One Union Place, Hartford, CT
Modalitly: Hybrid
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000

We are currently seeking a motivated, initiative-taking, and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our growing Payroll team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic department responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll processing for 2,000+ employees across multiple entities.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of payroll experience, preferably in a high-volume, multi-location environment.
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now is required.
  • Experience with UKG Workforce Ready (Kronos) is a strong plus.
  • Solid understanding of payroll principles, wage and hour laws, and tax regulations.
  • Prior experience processing union payrolls and interpreting CBAs a plus.
  • Elevated level of discretion and ability to manage sensitive, confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data validation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-first attitude.
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Payroll Specialist, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Accurately process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for over 2,000 employees, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Processing wage changes, including calculating retroactive pay adjustments as needed.
  • Calculate and process PTO payouts and final pay as needed.
  • Assist with payroll-related audits, reports, and accounting reconciliations.
  • Support benefit-related payroll projects, withholdings, and reporting.
  • Perform routine audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain payroll system data, accruals, and timekeeping records.
  • Respond promptly to employee and management inquiries regarding payroll matters.
