COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of Mission’s Finance Department is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll team in the efficient and accurate processing of payroll for our organization. This critical role ensures compliance with legislative regulations, collective agreements, and internal policies while providing leadership, guidance, and support to payroll staff.
As the Payroll Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a team in the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a diverse, multi-union workforce. You’ll oversee day-to-day operations, delegate tasks, review work for accuracy, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policies. Your role will involve maintaining employee records, reconciling payroll runs, preparing reports and remittances, and resolving complex payroll issues. You’ll also play a key role in training new team members, conducting performance reviews, and supporting professional development within your team. Collaborating closely with Human Resources and other departments, you’ll ensure payroll practices are aligned and responsive to changing needs. In addition, you’ll also complete year-end processes related to payroll.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have completed the Certified Payroll Management Certificate from the Canadian Payroll Registration, supplemented by completion of general accounting and Excel courses, and a high school diploma or equivalent.
The ideal candidate will also have completion of a recognized supervisory course, one year of supervisory experience, and a minimum of five years of progressively complex payroll experience in a unionized environment, preferably in a municipal government setting.
