Under general direction from the Director, Payroll the Payroll Tax Manager oversees all payroll tax administration. The payroll tax manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Working with external auditors and state and federal agencies. As well as any other task deemed necessary by the Director, Payroll. The managers’ time is spent planning, coordinating and managing the payroll tax requirements, including calling agencies to clear up issues, making payments and reviewing refunds. This position requires an extremely detailed person with significant knowledge of payroll tax administration, including state and federal regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • CPP certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of payroll tax experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or lead role.
  • Advanced knowledge of UKG Pro (UltiPro) and ADP (Workforce Now) SmartCompliance, or Tax Service provider.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax laws.
  • Experience handling payroll in a multi-state environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Efficiency with Salesforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor team members.
  • Experience with payroll system integrations and data migrations.
  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and payroll controls.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end payroll tax processes for all company employees across multiple states and jurisdictions.
  • Manage end-to-end payroll tax processes across multiple platforms, including ADP and UKG.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of all payroll tax returns, including federal, state, and local withholdings.
  • Ensure accuracy of W2 and W3 for employees and agencies.
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve variances in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with evolving tax regulations and legislative changes affecting payroll.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll tax audits and respond to all inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Oversee and manage payroll tax reporting and remittance using UKG and ADP platforms.
  • Coordinate with internal payroll, HR, and finance teams to ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Monitor and manage tax setup and configuration within UKG and ADP to ensure accurate tax withholding and reporting.
  • Lead efforts to identify process improvements and implement best practices for payroll tax operations.
  • Stay updated on payroll tax regulations and trends to proactively manage risk and ensure compliance.
