Job Summary: A non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health Systems is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients. Education: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent or meet one of the preferences. De-escalation training if applicable. Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Tennessee, First Responder, EMT, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Assistant, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic or Surgical Technician. Any of these may apply and work in a Patient Care Technician position, but must function within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the Patient Care Technician. Those who were employed as a Patient Care Technician prior to 3-1-2004 and do not have the above educational requirements will be grandfathered in as a Patient Care Technician. He/She must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam. Experience: Preferred, but not required. Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward. Preferred: CNA certification, EMT, First Responder (if applicable) Department Position Summary: The NICU Patient Care Technician serves as a unit clerk by answering the telephone, screening and verifying all visitors who enter in the unit while maintaining and completing clerical responsibilities as required. Responsible for stocking department supplies, maintaining par levels, as well as cleaning designated NICU equipment and unit specific areas. Must be able to communicate effectively and adapt to the constantly changing workload related to increase volume and acuity. The PCT may also perform non-licensed patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The PCT may be floated to work in other areas of Children's and may be utilized as a sitter.
