SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is to be a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with a Kansas medical license, who will provide optimal pediatric care in a primary care medical home practice.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Evidence of completion from either an accredited Nurse Practitioner Certificate program or Master’s Degree Nurse Practitioner Program which conforms to Board of Registered Nursing standards.

  • Must be licensed RN and nurse practitioner in KS
  • Must be certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Must have 1-2 years’ experience as a pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Must have a passion for serving the underserved and uninsured and demonstrate a willingness to adapt to a culturally diverse community
  • Current BLS certification

  • Previous experience in FQHC setting preferred

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Practices general pediatrics and participates in and completes maintenance of certification program by an accredited certifying organization.

Expectations include the following:

  • Sees patients ages 0-18 years old
  • Obtains a comprehensive health history
  • Performs physical examinations
  • Formulates a plan of care and treatment
  • Prescribes and performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Manages common acute and chronic illnesses
  • Documents in electronic medical records
  • Participates in educating patient, family and community in preventative health care and health maintenance concepts.
  • Provides holistic patient care through interdepartmental collaboration with dental, behavioral health, Community health workers, for example.
  • Ensures the Healthy Development Specialist is involved in the assessment and ongoing evaluation of all patients aged 0-3 years.
  • Helps develop, implement and further all specified care programs, such as the asthma programs.
  • Provides the highest standards of practice for the clinical area, practicing evidence-based care.
  • Participates in and supports the Clinic’s Quality Improvement program.
  • Opportunity to participate in the continuing education of nursing staff, nurse practitioner students and other students
  • Participates in On call rotation: Nurse Call-in Line
  • Other duties as assigned.
