Pediatric Social Worker Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pediatric Social Worker to join our team. In this role, you will work with children, families, and caregivers to provide emotional support, counseling, and resources to address social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. You will collaborate with healthcare providers, educators, and community organizations to ensure that children and their families receive the support they need for optimal development, well-being, and success. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and families.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: A Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
- Licensing: Active registration with the relevant provincial or state regulatory body (e.g., Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers).
- Experience: Previous experience working with children and families in a healthcare, social service, or educational setting is preferred. Experience in pediatric social work or child welfare is an asset.

Responsibilities:
- Child & Family Support: Provide emotional support and counseling to children and families coping with a range of issues, including illness, trauma, disability, family conflict, and mental health challenges.
- Assessment & Intervention: Conduct psychosocial assessments to evaluate the needs of children and their families. Develop and implement treatment plans based on assessment findings and collaborate with other professionals in multidisciplinary care teams.
- Therapeutic Counseling: Provide individual, group, and family therapy to help children and families manage stress, improve coping skills, and address behavioral or emotional issues.
- Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of children and families, ensuring they have access to the services and resources they need, including healthcare, financial assistance, housing, and educational support.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to crisis situations, offering immediate support and connecting families with emergency resources, when necessary.
- Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work closely with doctors, nurses, teachers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure a holistic approach to the child’s well-being.
- Case Management: Manage a caseload of pediatric clients, ensuring follow-up, regular monitoring, and adjustments to care plans as necessary.
- Education & Training: Educate children and families about available community resources and services. Provide training to caregivers on strategies for managing challenging behaviors and enhancing child development.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, interventions, and progress notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Support for Transitions: Assist families in navigating transitions, such as school changes, medical treatments, or moving from one care setting to another, ensuring continuity of care and support.
