Responsibilities

IN THIS ROLE:

  • You will be responsible for the delivery of evidenced based and family centered patient care to age birth to 18 years of age in the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). This may include caring for critically ill children involving respiratory cardiovascular, neurologic, hematologic/oncologic, endocrine/metabolic, gastrointestinal, renal, and other multisystem and other illnesses and diseases.
  • You will perform life-sustaining care for pediatric patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit PICU.
  • You will be able to evaluate and document each patient’s response to interventions and respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition.
  • You will have demonstrated knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. This includes a sound knowledge of emergency medications.
  • You will work closely with department leadership and physicians to coordinate treatment plans and examinations.
  • You will educate parents on day-to-day operations/goals, treatment plans and at home care procedures.
  • You will be able to perform general nursing duties in a medical/surgical observation unit for pediatric patients.
  • You will learn to identify and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families; communicate with social service/discharge planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.
  • You will act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure.
