EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE – WHAT YOU WILL BRING?

  • Hold a valid Ontario Security Guard license under and compliant with PSISA
  • Completion of a Senior secondary education (Diploma or Degree in any program) or equivalent and have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working for a provincially licensed security service.
  • Candidates with a background in Police Foundation or Law Security education are exempt from the 2-year experience requirement
  • Valid G drivers license
  • Possess an understanding and appreciation of the philosophy and practice of public service to people of different identities
  • Demonstrate fairness, respect, and equity in the treatment of all individuals. Be sensitive to individual needs, differences, and experiences
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, codes and legislation including the Criminal Code, the Trespass to Property Act, the Fire Code and WHMIS
  • Ability to react to and resolve emergency and crisis situations in a proper manner
  • Be able to both, physically and mentally, to fulfill the duties and requirements of the assigned work
  • Be able to walk/stand/climb stairs for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move heavy items
  • Ability to manage stress during emergencies or high work volumes.
  • Be able to operate handheld communication devices e.g., cellular phones, two-way radios.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing and maintaining clear, concise, and legible security reports and detailed records

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY – WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Under general supervision of and reporting to the Security Shift Supervisor, the security guard will be responsible for the provision of security guard services and any other duties which may pertain to their assigned location.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Respond to security matters or incidents which may occur, and provide assistance to staff, investigating and responding to situations as required.
  • Provide security guard services, protection and overall facility and property security to the assigned sites.
  • Read, acknowledge and follow Agency Policy, Directives, Standard Operating Procedures and Post Orders at all times.
  • Act as a customer service representative for any public or employee inquiries in person, intercom, telephone or via email.
  • Assist with any questions from members of the public and direct them to the appropriate group/individual, as required.
  • Facilitate and ensure all visitors and contractors sign in and out, and are issued visitor tags that they will wear visibly at all times while in the building
  • Record visitor information and details in required forms or systems.
  • Monitor and control access at defined facility and property entry control points and assigned security posts.
  • Check and escalate report on any maintenance defects found while on patrol. For example, burned out or broken lights, inoperative CCTV cameras, broken door closures, defective locks, damaged fire detection equipment, or elevators, etc.
  • Perform alarm response or fire watch as required
  • Submit detailed daily shift logs, incidence reports and supplementary follow-up reports and any other reports or logs requested
  • Enforcement of the Trespass to Property Act including physically removing individuals found trespassing or engaging in criminal acts.
  • Perform administrative duties on the assigned site’s card access system.
  • Perform system queries, information updates, enrolments, picture taking, photo ID printing, access card issuance and retrieval as per the established procedures.
