  People Encouraging People offers quality mobile behavioral health services to people with serious and persistent mental health and substance abuse disorders. We continuously strive to provide these services with integrity, honesty and respect. In order to continue our mission of quality care, we are seeking a Peer Counselor to join our Assertive Community Treatment Team. The successful candidate will have had personal life experiences with mental illness, substance abuse, or homelessness. The Peer Counselor will provide expertise that professional training cannot replicate. POSITION SUMMARY: Provide outreach services to clients in the community and coordinate health services between the Agency, community and home settings. The Peer Counselor will participate as a full member of the team to carry out support services and provide: substance abuse services and education, support to families and other identified supports and crisis intervention under the supervision of the Program Manager. You will provide highly individualized services in the community and promote self-determination and decision making. Staff should have lived experience with homelessness, mental health and/or substance use.  Should be currently stable and ready to help support others using their own experiences to help others.  High School education is enough.  We can train on other things.  Peer specialist training/certification nice but not required.  Would encourage them to work on certifications.  Must be able to drive (good record) and work varying shifts.  There is some weekend during winter months and special events. Previous work experience great, but not necessary.  Needs to be team player and work well with others.  Basic computer/phone skills needed.   Speaking Spanish will be a plus but not required! POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  * A valid drivers license, clean driving record and means of reliable transportation. * A lived experience with mental illness, substance abuse, or homelessness * Must have a Peer Support Certification or be willing to obtain one in an agree upon timeframe if hired.
Responsibilities
