General Summary/Responsibilities: The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing information and referral services to clients needing to access community resources. The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the team and provides peer recovery support services to individuals with substance use disorders. Under supervision of the care coordinator or clinical manager, they will function as a role model to peers. They are responsible for exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serving as an advocate, and providing information about peer support in outpatient and ambulatory settings. The Peer Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist clients in regaining independence within the community and ownership over their own recovery process. The Peer Support Specialist will provide services in the community including at other agencies, correction sites, and in the home. Qualifications Education: Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED Additional requirements: ▪ Type of degree: N/A ▪ Area of study or major: N/A ▪ Preferred educational qualifications: N/A ▪ Position specific testing requirement: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration: ▪ Must satisfy relevant state requirements for Certified Peer Recovery Supporter including being registered through OMHAS as a Certified Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter. ▪ Must have an active driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Experience: Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience Prior job title or occupational experience: N/A Prior specific functional responsibilities: N/A Preferred experience: N/A Other experience requirements: Must be a person with a lived experience of substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health & substance use disorder. Must be able to attest to a minimum of 2 years of sobriety Knowledge/Skills ▪ Excellent interpersonal skills, critical thinking and ability to communicate in writing. ▪ Excellent organizational skills .▪ Must be physically and mentally able to competently deal with verbally and physically aggressive patients. ▪ Computer keyboarding or typing skills recommended ▪ Working knowledge of mental health, drug and alcohol, and other community agencies and resources
