What You’ll Do Connect with people who are coping with mental health challenges, substance use, or difficult life circumstances that are being referred from hospital discharges, crisis services and community partners. Share your story in a way that gives others hope and shows recovery is possible. Support smooth transitions for people leaving hospitals, treatment programs, or incarceration by helping them connect to services, appointments, and community resources. Provide one-on-one and group support, helping people set goals, build coping skills, and find their own path toward wellness and independence. Work alongside professionals like clinicians and case managers to make sure no one falls through the cracks. Help people overcome barriers such as housing, transportation, or accessing benefits; drawing on Independent Living’s broad network of support programs. Promote inclusion and dignity, ensuring that everyone who comes through our doors feels welcomed, respected, and valued. Requirements This Role Could Be a Great Fit If You Have personal experience with recovery, mental health challenges, substance use, or major life transitions. Are ready to use that experience to inspire and guide others. Can listen without judgment, respect different paths to recovery, and meet people where they are. Are reliable, compassionate, and comfortable working as part of a team. Are willing to pursue or already hold Peer Support credentials (NYCPS and/or CRPA).
