Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Pellet Plant Laboratory Technician is responsible for assisting in maintaining the efficient operation of the Pellet Plant Laboratory. This includes the following: Prepare hop samples/pellets for analysis by grinding, weighing, and adding appropriate solvents. Enter sample descriptions into NAV Prepare production composites for storage. Set up oil distillations. Communicate results with production staff on orders that require active quality critical analyses (concentrate line and isomerized pellets). Relay any observed pellet/powder quality issues with the Laboratory Manager (visual quality or fluctuations in analytical values). Keep the lab solvent supply filled. Analyze samples and standards via spectrophotometer and HPLC, and enter analysis results into NAV. Maintain basic knowledge of the conductometer and GC use. Prepare spectro solution. Wash dishes and glassware each day and store them away. Ensure the lab is clean and orderly. Performs other related duties as directed. Requirements Experience, Education, and Licensure/Certification Requirements: Required Skills/Abilities: Must be able to split after-hours and weekend sample coverage with the Laboratory Manager. The individual must be able to work cohesively as part of a team. Must maintain a good attitude and be professional daily. Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented. Able to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be able to read and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be willing to work in a manufacturing, multi-shift environment. Good analytical skills and ability to make sound judgments. Physical Requirements: Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Ability to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods (lifting, walking, working at heights, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and stooping). The Lab Tech shall be responsible for their own lab safety. Safety devices will be used while handling chemicals in accordance with the S.S. Steiner OSHA Safety Health Plan. Knowledge of chemicals used in the lab shall be maintained, and any illness or injury that occurs to oneself will be brought to the attention of the Lab Manager, Plant Manager, or Quality Services Manager. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, loud, and labor-intensive environment in variable temperatures (from outdoor heat to indoor refrigerated coolers). Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
