OVERVIEW:

Under limited supervision, the Pension Supervisor will work with the Pension Department Leadership to oversee their assigned pension team in relation to administering retirement benefits for union representatives, trustees and other associated personnel.
This position will ensure organizational effectiveness, efficiency and safety at their designated site through communication protocols, pension team supervision and streamlining administrative procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years as a Pension Representative
  • Demonstrates leadership capability
  • Proven track record of taking initiative, proven attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrate excellent skills in grammar, letter composition, punctuation and other office skills
  • Working knowledge of basic office equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to keep calm and positive within all communications and under stressful situations
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external clients
  • Proven ability to accurately and timely review and perform accounting of information and documentation
  • Utilize computer, software and phone systems to be able to effectively perform the essential functions of the position
  • Demonstrated ability to keep calm, patient and positive within all communications
  • Previous experience utilizing Microsoft office software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree

Responsibilities

Supervisor duties (51%)

  • Partner with Pension Leadership and Human Resources to maintain adherence to policies, procedures and CBA compliance, including disciplinary actions
  • Assists in training, coaching, and supervising personnel
  • Coordinate new hire orientation with Human Resources to ensure paperwork is filled out timely and trainings are completed
  • Perform, review and analyze any special projects and keep Pension Department Leadership informed
  • Partner with Pension Department Leadership and Human Resources to ensure top performance from Pension staff by providing them with adequate coaching and guidance
  • Facilitate and partner with Pension Department Leadership for interviewing purposes
  • Maintain a safe and secure department working environment
  • Approves retirement set ups over $100,000
  • Continually monitors workloads while working in the capacity of a “float” Pension Representative and reports to the Pension Department Leadership as needed or otherwise directed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Pension Representative (49%)

  • May be assigned as a “float” Pension Representative, able to cover all workstations and their related day-to-day job duties
  • Computes and analyzes complex retirement scenarios, to include benefit calculations
  • Sets up annuity distributions
  • Audit processed retirement set ups and annuity distributions for accuracy and overall file approval
  • Provide customer service to members, Union personnel, Trustees or other persons as necessary, by phone, in writing or in person concerning Pension or Annuity processing or related issues
  • Maintain and apply up-to-date knowledge of the Pension and Annuity Plan Rules, systems and procedures
  • Makes recommendations for system improvements
  • Reviews plan documents and summary plan descriptions for updates
  • Provides technical assistance to Pension personnel as directed
