The People Unit at UTS is embarking on an exciting period of transformation, designed to elevate the support we provide to the university and position us for a dynamic, digitally enabled future. This transformation is all about creating a more strategic, agile, and future-focused People Unit. We are building stronger Strategic Business Partnering capability, enhancing our operational processes through greater standardization and automation, and expanding our focus on Learning and Organisation Development, Talent Management, Organisation Design, and Workforce Planning. These changes will empower us to provide even more effective support to UTS, enabling the university to thrive in its evolving landscape.
As part of this transformation, we are seeking 3 People Advisors to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-performing HR function and contribute to the delivery of effective, people-focused services across the university.

About the Roles As a People Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality HR support to faculties and divisions across UTS. You will be the first point of contact for HR queries, providing sound advice and guidance to managers and staff on a wide range of HR matters. In joining Client Services, you will join a collaborative and collegial group of HR professionals. Day to day, the People Advisor (HEW 5) will be:

  • Providing first-line people and HR process related advice through our centralised inbox, ensuring compliance with HR policies and the relevant UTS enterprise agreements. This includes advising on and processing key employment entitlements such as parental leave.
  • Providing a range of administrative HR support including assisting UTS staff with HR self-service tools and the use of our current HR systems.
  • Providing support to our People Consultant team and other HR specialists across the People Unit to deliver effective workforce support and drive process improvements.
  • Assisting with HR system updates, reporting, and content development to enhance the employee experience.

    We also have 1 opportunity for an experienced People Advisor to take on additional responsibilities at the HEW 6 level, in addition to those listed above. These responsibilities include:

  • Acting as an escalation point within the team for complex HR queries and non-standard employment arrangements.

  • Supporting organisational change processes by working closely with People Consultants to undertake key administrative processes in a change process.
  • Providing support to the Manager, Client Services to ensure regular mapping of key processes is undertaken and kept up to date while also being able to identify opportunities for process improvement where possible and practicable

At the HEW 6 level, the following criteria would be deemed essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in a HR advisory role within a large and complex organisation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities amongst a constant stream of work
  • Demonstrated experience using a HRIS system– while UTS is currently on a path to digital transformation, the use of our current Oracle based HRIS system is a key day to day element of the People Advisor role and will be key to success
  • Knowledge of HR policies, employment legislation, and HR systems.

REMUNERATIONHEW 5 Base Salary Range: $82,666 to $94,570 p.aHEW 6 Base Salary Range: $95,983 to $103,808 p.a These roles attract 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities. These roles are offered on a full-time, continuing (permanent) basis.
