About the role
The People & Culture Officer provides practical, day-to-day support across the employee lifecycle and contributes to a consistent employee experience across corporate and project operations. Working under the direction of the Executive General Manager – Corporate Services, the role supports recruitment, employee relations, performance management, payroll delivery and workforce reporting. It also provides operational backup for mobilisation, onboarding and workforce compliance activities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide practical day-to-day People & Culture support to employees and leaders
- Support employee relations matters, grievances, performance management and disciplinary processes under the direction of the EGM
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment activities, including advertising, screening, interviews, reference checks and pre-employment requirements
- Coordinate probation and performance review processes and maintain supporting records
- Support the accurate and timely delivery of payroll
- Assist with the collection and verification of licences, qualifications, medicals, VOCs, inductions and other employment or project requirements
- Prepare routine workforce reporting on recruitment, turnover, probation, performance, leave, vacancies and compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee files, registers and HRIS records
- Respond to general employee enquiries and ensure matters are resolved or escalated appropriately
- Escalate material employee relations, industrial relations and employment-risk matters to the EGM
About you
- Relevant qualification in human resources, employee relations, business or a related discipline
- Practical experience supporting employee relations, performance management, investigations, grievances and probation processes
- Experience coordinating recruitment and preparing employment documentation
- Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, modern awards and workplace policies
- Experience supporting payroll, mobilisation, onboarding or workforce compliance in a project-based environment
- Strong written communication, record-keeping and attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to operational deadlines
- Sound judgement and the ability to recognise when a matter requires escalation
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with corporate, project and site-based employees
- Competence using HRIS, payroll and Microsoft Office systems
