Work Location: Onsite: Christiansburg, VA FLSA Status: Exempt Essential Duties and Responsibilities Payroll & HRIS Administration • Execute multi-state payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate pay, deductions, and time-off tracking. • Maintain HRIS data integrity, run reports, and support ongoing system improvements. • Partner with Accounting to reconcile payroll and benefit payments and resolve discrepancies. Benefits & Leave Administration • Administer employee benefits including enrollments, changes, terminations, and leave programs (FMLA, STD, LTD, etc.). • Reconcile benefits invoices and collaborate with external vendors. • Provide recommendations for benefit enhancements and process improvements. Recruitment & Onboarding • Support full-cycle recruitment activities: posting positions, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and extending offers. • Facilitate onboarding and orientation, ensuring system setup, benefits enrollment, and cultural integration. Employee Relations & Engagement • Partner with leaders to address employee relations, performance management, and retention efforts. • Assist with initial employee relations issues and escalate complex matters to leadership. • Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and company events. • Gather and respond to employee feedback through surveys or other engagement tools. Training & Talent Development • Coordinate and track employee and leadership training related to onboarding, performance, and HR processes. • Support talent development initiatives, career-pathing, and workforce planning. Compliance, Policies & Documentation • Maintain and update the Employee Handbook and departmental procedures. • Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and internal HR policies. • Maintain accurate personnel files and training records in accordance with record retention requirements. • Facilitate policies and procedures to support employee health and safety. Metrics, Reporting & Budget Support • Track, analyze, and report HR metrics such as turnover, time-to-fill, and engagement data. • Support budget tracking and quarterly forecasting for the People Operations department. Other Duties • Perform additional duties as assigned to support People Operations and organizational goals. Requirements Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • 2+ years of HR or People Operations experience. • Working knowledge of multi-state payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS systems. • Strong understanding of employment laws and HR best practices. • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail. • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills. • Excellent conflict resolution and mediation skills. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. • Experience with recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding. Experience and Education • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field and/or highly relevant experience preferred. • SHRM-CP desired or ability to obtain. • Experience in leadership or management role preferred.
