QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Food Handler’s Certificate (required).
  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification – required for Cooks; preferred for Dietary Aides.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or high-volume commercial kitchen.
  • Understanding of HACCP, safe food handling, cross-contamination prevention, and FIFO.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes, portion controls, and meal schedules.
  • Able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in hot, fast-paced environments.
  • Must pass background check, drug screen, and provide current immunizations (including TB test).
  • Dependable, team-oriented, and able to follow instructions.
  • Food preparation, cooking, and food handling experience
  • Previous restaurant or kitchen experience
  • Culinary background with knowledge of meal preparation
  • Ability to work in a long-term care setting
  • Strong knife skills
  • Experience in menu planning
  • Knowledge of dietary department operations
  • Familiarity with catering and serving
  • Certification in food safety/handling is a plus
  • Experience as a cook in a long term care or assisted living facility a plus

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook quality food for meal service according to standardized recipes.
  • Follow menus as provided.
  • Schedule and prepare foods for special functions as planned.
  • Occasionally serve food
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment and dishes
  • Handle and store ingredients and food
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment and utensils
  • Set up workstations with required ingredients and equipment
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills and fryers
