Position Title: Performance Auditor Job Description: The Performance Auditor is a highly analytical and ethical position within the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD). This position is responsible for evaluating the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of departmental operations, programs, and services. This role plays a critical part in promoting transparency, improving public trust, and ensuring that law enforcement practices align with departmental goals, legal standards, and community expectations. Performance Auditor TYPICAL DUTIES: Conduct performance audits of police operations, programs, and administrative functions to assess effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with policies and regulations. Analyze data related to crime trends, response times, use of force, community engagement, staffing, and resource allocation. Develop audit plans, objectives, and methodologies in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book). Prepare clear, concise, and evidence-based audit reports with actionable recommendations. Present findings to department leadership, city officials, and community stakeholders as appropriate. Monitor implementation of audit recommendations. Conduct annual risk assessment. Collaborate with internal units (e.g., Internal Affairs, Training, Budget). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in performance auditing, program evaluation, or a related analytical role. Knowledge of auditing standards (e.g., GAGAS), data analysis techniques, and public sector operations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and maintain objectivity and confidentiality. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in a relevant field. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), or similar credentials. Experience auditing law enforcement or public safety agencies. Familiarity with police data systems (e.g., CAD, RMS, body-worn camera data). WORKING CONDITIONS: Comfortable working positions, handling light weights. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. Generally pleasant working conditions with some exposure to dangerous situations in extreme emergencies. Intermittent exposure to stress as result of human behavior.
