Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled perfusionist to join our dynamic healthcare team at UPMC Williamsport. This is a full-time position with hours of 6:30AM - 3:00PM. As a Perfusionist, you will play a critical role in the operating room, responsible for managing the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgeries and other medical procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass. Your expertise will ensure the safe and effective operation of this vital equipment, contributing to the success of complex surgical interventions and the overall well-being of our patients. Responsibilities
  • Equipment Proficiency: Maintain expertise with accessory equipment and procedures, ensuring optimal performance and patient safety.
  • Professional Conduct: Uphold the philosophy and standards of UPMC by demonstrating courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in interactions with patients, peers, medical staff, and visitors.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents under the supervision of attending physicians.
  • Maintenance: Perform equipment maintenance checklists as required to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Non-Cardiac Support: Provide perfusion support for non-cardiac procedures such as transplantation, chemoperfusion, ECMO, cardiac support devices, component therapy, and blood recovery.
  • Equipment Evaluation: Assist in the evaluation of new equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Instruction and Supervision: If employed at UPMC, serve as an instructor/supervisor to the UPMC School of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • On-Call Participation: Participate in the on-call schedule as per institutional policy. (Every 3rd weekend/holiday)
  • Scope of Practice: Safely conduct perfusion practices and make appropriate changes in therapy after consulting with attending physicians.
  • Supply Management: Maintain equipment and supplies to ensure readiness and availability.
  • Documentation: Perform documentation associated with described responsibilities accurately and timely.
  • Continuing Education: Support continuing education and research as required by the perfusionist’s scope of practice.
  • Instruction: Instruct students, residents, and others in new procedures and equipment.
  • Supply Ordering: Participate in the ordering and maintenance of supplies as assigned.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and revision of policies and procedures, performance improvement, quality management, and staff education.
  • Team Collaboration: Assist other staff members and hospital personnel in completing tasks, prioritizing patient care and interdepartmental service.
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited school of cardiovascular perfusion or met Grandfather Clause of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and Licensing Board of US state where practicing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.LICENSURE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND CLEARANCES:Certified or certification-eligible as per guidelines of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion within 24 months of hire date. Active licensure in US state where practicing required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Valid Driver’s License and Automobile Insurance required for some positions.
