Karitane is seeking a qualified Perinatal / Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to work as Visiting
Medical Officer (VMO) to work in our Campbelltown Early Parenting Service – Campbelltown Hospital
8 hours per week.
POSITION TITLE: Perinatal / Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist – VMO
DEPARTMENT: Karitane Residential Unit
OPERATIONAL BASE: Campbelltown Early Parenting Service – Campbelltown Hospital
STATUS: 8 hours per week
RENUMERATION: VMO Rates aligned to NSW Health Renumeration and conditions

Responsibilities

PURPOSE

Karitane provides support to families during pregnancy and early childhood. Services include Jade House Perinatal Anxiety & Mood Disorder Unit, Karitane Toddler Clinic, Residential Unit at Campbelltown and Parenting Centres. This position is primarily for work within the Residential Unit and based at Campbelltown and occasionally include face to face or virtual consultation to other offsite services.
The successful applicant (s) will play a vital role in delivering perinatal and infant mental health services at Karitane Residential Units. Supervision of advanced trainees and involvement in research with our university partners is anticipated.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: ( each criteria below must be addressed on eCredential)
1. Registered as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
2. Eligibility for Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (FRANZCP) within 6 months of appointment
3. Demonstrated experience in Perinatal and/or Child and Family Psychiatry.
4. Clinical experience in perinatal/infant mental health including assessment of and intervention with pregnant women, prescribing during pregnancy and lactation and family focused work in the perinatal period.
5. Understanding of principles of early intervention, prevention and health promotion
6. Current NSW driver’s license.
7. Experience in teaching and clinical supervision of staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide clinical and consultant psychiatric services to clients within the Karitane Residential Units. The role includes assessment of families in the perinatal/ early childhood periods, including parents with mental illness, and children with difficulties in regulation and development.
  • Expertise in psychotropic prescribing during pregnancy and lactation is required
  • Provide developmentally and relationally informed psychiatric expertise to clinical discussion and decision-making about patient care and service development.
  • Clinical care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee and approved by the Karitane Board.
  • To perform the appropriate duties and functions required under the Mental Health Act 2007.
  • This position involves clinical care, teaching, service evaluation responsibilities.
