This is a permanent full-time position that will commence as soon as possibe.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Technician position is responsible for inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, renovations, operational and safety improvements, working as part of the Facilities team to deliver safe and healthy buildings, equipment and grounds that meet the needs of students and staff.

What you will do:

  • Perform maintenance, new construction and repairs on division facilities, grounds, equipment, millwork, and furniture including minor plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and structural work.
  • Occasional coordination and monitoring of labourers, external contractors, and caretakers.
  • Monitor, test, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on components and functionality of HVAC systems, life safety systems and security systems, either independently or under the direction or supervision of trade-specific journey persons, contractors, or service providers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of work completed using the Asset Planner application.
  • Use judgment to complete assigned work in an efficient manner while maintaining safety considerations first and foremost.
  • Complete other related tasks as assigned and at times in collaboration with other trades or maintenance workers in the Facilities Department.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned by the Facilities Manager or the Facilities Supervisor.

What will make you successful:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years of related experience, including experience driving 1 ton truck and trailer as well as skid steers, tractors and large mowers
  • Valid Apprentice or Journeyman Certificate in the trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Training in the following will be considered an asset: Power Mobile Equipment, Fall Protection Awareness and Arial Awareness
  • Pesticide Certification with Landscape and Structural Application is considered an asset
  • Understand and articulate problems and solutions verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to read and understand technical schematics, drawings, and manuals.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety standards and relevant building and professional codes.
  • Ability to operate and use equipment, tools, and diagnostic equipment knowledgeably and safely to trouble shoot, build, and repair facilities systems and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret descriptions of written and verbal issues as communicated by end users.
  • Ability to perform physical labour, including: lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs., moving equipment, and utilizing suitable equipment for handling of heavy or awkward loads.
  • Ability to drive long distances daily within the school division.
  • Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
