JOB SUMMARY

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the RNAS Culdrose Physical Development Team. The Physical Development (PDev) portfolio is a key component of Armed Forces operational capability, and comprises three pillars: Sport, Physical Education and Adventurous Training. PDev offers a vital contribution in that it helps develop fitness, teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, determination, co-ordination, courage, individual and collective resilience, and consequently morale and fighting spirit. PDev also plays a meaningful part in Service life overall and is a core activity that provides a balance for the stresses of military life.
This vacancy is for a full-time position and advertised at 37 hours per week. Applicants seeking part time and job share will only be considered provided full time cover can be achieved.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As our Physical Development and Facilities Manager, you will lead on the safe and effective management function for all buildings, equipment, sports fields, and facilities required in support of Physical Development for the Establishment. You will have day to day accountability and responsibility for all building related health and safety, fire safety, incident planning, and Physical Development equipment sustainability requirements in the high-profile Defence Establishment of RNAS Culdrose. This will include the coordination of a suitable Physical Development programme in consultation with relevant Subject Matter Experts. This role sits within our Executive Department, and you will be directly responsible to the Executive Officer (Line Manager) and Commanding Officer.

In support of Command objectives, the Physical Development and Facilities Manager will:

  • On behalf of the Head of Establishment, be responsible for availability of all PDev facilities and equipment, their health & safety, maintenance, replacement planning and business continuity. Managing a small team of Subject Matter Experts to support you in this area
  • Buildings and facilities management - assurance that fire safety plans are in place and that buildings fire safety and emergency procedures fulfil departmental and legal requirements.
  • Function as Establishment Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for PDev infrastructure business and broker contacts with specific business areas to support any tasks required.
  • Coordinate the development of a weekly Establishment PDev programme, and suitably advertise this programme within the establishment.
  • Ensure that an appropriate Challenging Activity Leader Awards (CALA) database of qualified Leaders is maintained, updated and that an appropriate methodology is available to support CALA from the establishment.
  • Monitor customer activity and develop an understanding of customer issues, resolving or escalating where appropriate. Be proactive in holding meetings with high profile customers to facilitate real-time working and customer engagement.
  • Membership of appropriate H&S and Unit Health Committees.
  • Coordinate establishment contribution to Regional PDev events in liaison with the Deployable Regional Unit.
  • Work with H&S Manager in the team to monitor and ensure all unresolved building and PDev equipment related risks are escalated appropriately.
  • Manage devolved budgets in accordance with the financial procedures outlined in the budget delegation.
  • Responsible for the management of all staff within their area. This includes staff performance, development, and annual appraisal through to sickness absence management.
  • Produce relevant reports as required and ensure all correspondence is replied to within agreed timescales.
  • Management of all encroachments on site in line with relevant policy.
  • Liaise and form good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
