REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • Graduate of a Personal Support Worker Program from a Community College
  • Holds current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or obtained within six months of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to work with patients with dementia or cognitive impairments
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of good body mechanics
  • Good listening skills
  • Ability to understand, interpret and carry out written or verbal instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Functional proficiency in English (oral and written)
  • Limited proficiency in oral French – and testing completed

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Personal Support Worker is responsible for providing direct and indirect activities that support the overall provision of nursing care on the nursing units as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care. This also includes one-on-one care to patients as required
