EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate
  • Physical ability to perform light cleaning and lifting (e.g. washing floors, dusting, laundry, and transferring clients) and knowledge of basic health and safety standards
  • Knowledge of routine precautions required for cleanliness and disinfecting and for the control of the spread of communicable diseases (IPAC)
  • Able to build relationships with clients using a gentle approach
  • Crisis intervention and problem-solving skills are required to anticipate and deal with client issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential
  • Strong sense of integrity & autonomy
  • Immunization for tuberculosis, chickenpox, mumps and hepatitis B is strongly urged
  • Current First AID & CPR Certification is required
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention, and Food Handlers’ certificate is preferred
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police check completed within last 12 months is required
  • Fluency in a second language such as Italian/Spanish/Russian is an asset
  • This position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and you must provide Lumacare with proof of vaccination prior to employment

Responsibilities
  • Provides homemaking and respite care
  • Performs all personal care duties
  • Assists in the preparation of daily meals and nutritional snacks
  • Monitors client’s well-being and informs supervisor of any changes or incidents
  • Strong sense of autonomy ad self-management
  • Traveling to clients home daily to perform services for the agency client
  • Performs other duties as required
