Personal Tax Return Reviewer at dfarc, Chartered Professional Accountants

dfarc is adding a new position, Personal Tax Reviewer. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned accountant who is looking to progress their career in a high growth and high-opportunity public accounting firm.
This is a full-time position directly reporting to the Partner.
Responsibilities:
· Prepare and review personal income tax returns. This includes the following associated tasks:
o Update accounting team on tax changes.
o Apply tax knowledge to identify issues and offer recommendations.
o Lead tax team into 2025 personal tax season.
o Review and create standard worksheets for self-employed, rental expenses, and portfolio investments.
o Review imported client information from CRA electronically.
o Review and prepare GST returns.
o Consult with CRA in writing and by phone.
· Assist with tax planning:
o Identify and provide tax planning opportunities, including strategies for minimizing tax liabilities and maximizing tax benefits.
· Mentor Junior staff:
o Provide guidance and training to junior staff members, helping them to develop their skills and knowledge in personal taxation.
· Communicate with clients effectively:
o Maintains clear and professional oral communication that reflects a strong knowledge of Canadian taxation laws and regulations.
o Demonstrates strong written communication skills.
o Demonstrates a professional demeanor and phone etiquette.
o Ability to maintain strict confidentiality over client information.
Requirements:
· Considerable experience in preparing and reviewing personal income tax returns:
o 5 to 10 years of personal tax experience at an intermediate level.
o Proficiency in self employment, investment, capital gains, rentals, and employment expenses.
o Proficiency in non-resident tax returns and elections under section 216.
· Demonstrates technical expertise with tax software including an ability to oversee tax updates.
· Ability to utilize TaxPrep T1 software and educate staff on proficiencies.
· Demonstrates excellent excel skills.
· Demonstrate an elevated level of accountability and ability to work independently.
· Ability to apply specialized tax knowledge to a variety of tax issues.
· Ability to use your strong analytical and organizational skills by analyzing complex tax situations and organizing information efficiently.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
